Managing Your Subscription

How to subscribe to Pro, apply promo codes, change plans, and cancel, plus exactly what happens to your account if you cancel or a payment fails.

Managing Your Subscription

Everything about the money side of Designer Den lives on one page: the Plans page. From there you subscribe to Pro, apply a promo code, switch between monthly and yearly, and cancel. This article walks through each step and, just as important, exactly what happens to your projects if your Pro access ever ends. For the feature-by-feature comparison of Free vs Pro, see Plans & Pricing.

Payments are processed securely by Stripe. Designer Den never sees or stores your card number.

Subscribing to Pro

  1. Open the Plans page.
  2. Pick Pro Monthly or Pro Yearly (yearly is billed once a year at a lower effective rate).
  3. You land on Stripe's secure checkout. Enter your card, and if you have a promo code, add it in the Add promotion code field there.
  4. Finish checkout. Your account flips to Pro right away, including in any project or room you already have open.

You'll get two emails: a subscription confirmation and a payment receipt with a link to your invoice. Keep the receipt for your records.

Note

Upgrading is instant and non-destructive. Nothing about your existing projects, components, or files changes, except that the Pro limits lift and the Pro tools switch on.

Applying a Promo Code Later

Already subscribed and have a code to add?

  1. Go to the Plans page.
  2. In the Manage Subscription box at the top, type your code into Have a promo code? and click Apply.

The discount attaches to your subscription and shows up on your upcoming invoices. It isn't a refund on payments you've already made.

Receipts and Renewals

  • Every time a payment succeeds (your first charge and each renewal), we email you a receipt with a link to the invoice.
  • Ahead of a renewal charge, we send a reminder so a renewal never catches you off guard.
  • Monthly plans renew every month and yearly plans renew every year, automatically, until you cancel.

Changing Plans

You can move between Pro Monthly and Pro Yearly from the Plans page. The price difference is prorated: switching mid-cycle credits the unused portion of your current plan against the new one, and the adjustment appears on your next invoice. Your Pro access never drops during a switch.

Canceling

  1. Open the Plans page.
  2. In Manage Subscription, click Cancel Subscription and confirm.

What cancellation does, and does not, do:

  • You keep Pro until the end of the period you've already paid for. If you cancel halfway through a month, Pro stays on until that month is up. We email you the exact date your access runs through.
  • You are not charged again. Cancellation turns off the next renewal.
  • Nothing is deleted. Your projects, components, files, setups, and recordings all stay exactly where they are.

When that paid period ends, your account downgrades to Free. See What Happens When You Downgrade below.

Tip

Changed your mind before the period ends? You still have full Pro until the date in your cancellation email. To keep Pro going past that date, start a subscription again from the Plans page.

If a Payment Fails

Cards expire and banks decline charges; it happens. Designer Den handles it gently rather than cutting you off:

  1. When a renewal charge fails, your subscription moves to a past due grace state. Your Pro access stays on during this window, so your work isn't interrupted.
  2. We email you right away with a secure link to fix the payment and the date of the next automatic retry.
  3. Stripe retries the charge automatically over the following days.
  4. If a retry succeeds, or you update your card via the emailed link, everything returns to normal and you get a receipt.
  5. Only if every retry fails does the subscription finally end, at which point your account downgrades to Free.

Important

The fastest fix is the secure link in the payment email. It takes you straight to Stripe to update your card and settle the balance, and your Pro access continues without a gap.

What Happens When You Downgrade

Whether you downgrade by canceling or because a payment ultimately could not be collected, the result is the same, and it is deliberately safe:

  • Your plan switches to Free. Pro-only tools (analytics, exports, the Print & Play Maker, The Game Crafter import, session replay) switch off until you re-subscribe.
  • Every project becomes read-only, including projects within the Free limit. Persistent rooms close and any public or shared setups are switched off.
  • Nothing is ever deleted. All your projects, components, uploaded art, and recordings stay intact. "Read-only" means you can still open and view a project; you just can't edit it or host playtests from it until you unlock it.
  • You choose what to keep working on. From your Projects page, unlock up to the Free limit of projects. Choose carefully: once you've picked, that selection is fixed until you upgrade again. You can't lock one project to swap the slot to a different one; only re-subscribing (which unlocks everything) resets the choice.
  • Storage isn't wiped. If your files exceed the Free storage limit, you simply can't upload more until you're back under it or upgrade again; existing files stay put.

Re-subscribe at any time and everything unlocks again instantly, right where you left off.

Comped or Manually Granted Access

If your Pro access was granted by an admin (a beta reward or a comp) rather than through a paid subscription, there's no billing timer counting down and nothing to cancel; you keep that access until an admin changes it. If you'd like to support the project with a paid subscription anyway, the Plans page will show you a Subscribe option.

Common Questions

Where do I manage or cancel my subscription? The Plans page. The Manage Subscription box at the top appears once you have a subscription and holds the promo-code and cancel controls.

How do I update my card? When a charge needs your attention, we email you a secure Stripe link to update your payment details. That link keeps your access uninterrupted, so it's the reliable way to change a card.

Will I lose any work if I downgrade? No. Downgrading never deletes anything. Projects go read-only and you pick which to unlock on Free, but every bit of your data is preserved.

Do my playtesters need to pay? No. Players join a room for free with just a code and a name. Only the host's plan matters.
